If you spend more time sorting through your task list than actually working on it, you’re not alone. Whether you're managing client deliverables, team priorities, or endless Slack pings, staying organized shouldn’t be a full-time job.
That’s why we built auto labels.
With just a few clicks, you can create a custom label in Hoop and tell it when to apply that label. From that point on, Hoop handles the rest. Every task that matches your prompt? Instantly identified. And you can even add a fun emoji to give your tasks some personality.
What it looks like in real life
Let’s say you work in an agency or consulting firm. Here’s how auto labels could save you hours each week:
- Label all client requests from "Acme" - So every task from that client is grouped in one place, without you lifting a finger. This is across emails, meetings, and Slack.
- Auto label tasks that mention "Finance" related tasks like contracts, SOW, budgets, etc - So financial tasks are automatically batched together for review later.
- Apply labels depending on urgency - So you never miss high-priority items buried in Slack or meeting notes.
- Auto apply labels from a project - Tell Hoop about the project you're working on, and Hoop will auto label all tasks related to that projects across your tools.
The magic is in telling Hoop in plain English what the label is related to, and then watch tasks auto-magically get labeled in real time as they are generated across your tools.
If you’re an executive juggling dozens of priorities, this means less time organizing and more time making decisions. If you’re a client lead, it means no more digging through threads to find what a client asked for last Tuesday.
You can also use Hoop's "Filter" view to see all the tasks with a label to better understand what work needs to be done for that project/workstream.
Here's Ben, the engineer who built this feature, doing a demo and explaining exactly how it works:

Getting started is simple
- Click on the three dot menu next to a task or the "Filter" icon on the left hand menu.
- Click "Edit Labels" then "Add Label"
- Choose the color and emoji for your label.
- Describe how you'd like Hoop to apply your labels. The more detail, the better.
- That’s it. Every time a task matches, Hoop applies the label for you.

Less work about work. More doing.
Auto labels is part of a bigger vision: to help you stop managing work and get back to actually doing it. Because no one wants to spend their day organizing their tasks. And with Hoop, you don’t have to. Try it out and let us know what you think! As always, we'd love to hear from you at founders@hoop.app
